The California Museum has appointed Erin Clancey as executive director. She will assume the role in September 2026, succeeding Amanda Meeker following her retirement.
SACRAMENTO, Calif., July 8, 2026 (BUSINESS WATCH GLOBAL) – The California Museum has appointed Erin Clancey as its new executive director. She will assume the role in September 2026, succeeding Amanda Meeker following her retirement after 28 years with the museum.
Clancey brings more than 25 years of museum leadership experience to the position. She currently serves as associate vice president of collections and exhibits at The National WWII Museum in New Orleans, where she oversees exhibitions, collections, archives and digital assets. Previously, she was chief curator at the Skirball Cultural Center & Museum in Los Angeles.
According to the museum, Clancey will oversee the institution as it continues expanding public programming and exhibitions focused on California's history, culture and innovation.

The Museum is in an extraordinary position to continue telling meaningful stories about the people, ideas, and movements that have shaped our state. I look forward to working with its talented staff, board, partners, and communities across California to broaden access and steward the Museum into its next chapter,” said Clancey.
A Davis, California, native, Clancey earned bachelor's degrees in anthropology and psychology from the University of California, San Diego. She completed graduate studies in archaeology at UCLA and is pursuing a doctorate in art history at the University of St. Andrews.
The California Museum is a cultural institution in Sacramento that highlights California's history, diversity and influence through exhibitions, educational programming and the California Hall of Fame.
